PITCHED BATTLE
STRIKERS SEIZE POWER HOUSE.
ONE MAN KILLED
(By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received June 12, 9.35 a.ra. HALIFAX (Nova Scotia), June 11. After a pitched battle at Glace Bay, lasting upwards of 15 minutes, the striking United mine workers of America charged the power house, which had been re-opened by the British Empire Steel Corporation on Wednesday in order to save the coal mines from further floodings, and early this afternoon the miners were in complete charge of the plant. One man was killed and another was shot in the stomach. Several of the company’s police were injured. The power house was closed a week ago when the strikers ejected the maintenance men following the company's refusal to accept the Hon. James Murdock, Minister of Labour, as arbitrator. To-day’s incident is the first act of serious violence reported during the strike, 'involving 12,000 men, which has entered on the fourth month.— A. and N.Z. cable.
