SITUATION IN MOROCCO.
BECOMES MORE GRAVE.
LONDON, June 10. The Times’s Paris correspondent states that the German Embassy does not deny reports from Morocco that large numbers of German reserve officers have joined Abdel Krim’s forces, but states that this is against the wishes of the German Government, which lias advised German subjects not to help Krini, directly or indirectly, or to serve as military instructors. A Franco-Spanish conference oh Moroccan affairs is being held at Madrid on June 15.
The Daily Mail’s Paris correspondent states that the gravity of the Moroccan situation is increasingly apparent. Tlie French have evacuated Taounat, destroying quantities of war material. They have also withdrawn from many posts further eastward owing to unremitting Riff sniping. General Lyautcy has urgently requested further reinforcements for artillery and aeroplanes with a view to clearing the right bank of the Onergha, as otherwise these minor successes are calculated to increase Abdel Krim’s prestige.—A. and N.Z. cable. PRESSURE ON FRENCH LINES. PARIS, June 10. Owing to enemy pressure, which resulted in many penetrations of the French lines, along Waidizess, the French command decided, as a precautionary measure, to remove the civilian population of Wezzan southward. NEGOTIATIONS WITH ABDEL KRIM. Received June 12, 11.30 a.m. MADRID, June 11. All movements of Spanish troops have been suspended until the end of June. Meanwhile negotiations are being Held with Abdel Krim. Under the Act of Algeciras Britain will support tlie contemplated FrancoSpanish measures to blockade the Riff coasts.
It is reported that M. Painleve (French Premier), who reached Rabat after a twelve hours’ flight from Toulouse, will break the return journey at Malaga for conversation with the Spanish Government on tlie subject of Franco-Spanish co-operation.—Reuter.
