BOWLING

TERRACE END CLUB. COMMITTEE MEETING. A meeting of the- Terrace End Bowling Club committee was held last evening, Mr J. Davidson presiding. There were also present: Messrs P. Duncalf, D. Fleming, W. Moffat, A. W. Sutton, F. Shepherd, A. W. Wood, W. M. Moore and J. Wallace. OUTSTANDING SUBSCRIPTIONS.

With regard to outstanding subscriptions, Mr Moffat was of the opinion that the club’s solicitor should be instructed tio collect them. “Members who do not pay are no asset to the club,” he stated. The chairman remarked that this would not be a very nice thing to do.

Mr Sutton stated that a firm letter should be sent thiose members in arrears. On his suggestion it was decided that members concerned be written to stating that if subscriptions were not forthcoming within a certain time legal action would bo resorted to. The same gentleman was of the opinion that the time had come when all clubs should take a firm stand with regard to unpaid subscriptions. It was absolutely wrong to ask a secretary to chase members around asking them for their subscriptions. “You frequently see members who have paid sitting on the bank, while others who have not paid are filling their places,” he stated. He was of opinion that a deputation of the Terrace End Club meet deputations from the other clubs with the object of passing this resolution: “That all subscriptions bo paid on or beFore the date of the official opening and that- no member bo allowed to play if his subscription is not deposited with the secretary.” Mr Sutton stated that his idea was not only to help the committee but to obviate any member becoming a debt collector. Ho added that he would be inclined to resign from any club that did not- take a stand in this way.

The chairman: "I am quite in. favour of this. Something must be done with regard to subscriptions." It was finally decided that Messrs Sutton and Davidson be appointee! the club's deputation, the former being , detailed to get in touch with the chairmen of the various bowling clubs' committees on the matter. GENERAL. The treasurer reported a credit balance to date of £7B 6s Id. The chairman stated that, considering tho club had had a deal more expense this year than in others—a thing that would not occur again for some time—this was a very creditable state of affairs. The secretary also reported that the takings with the gala day on March 21 last amounted to £127 12s 7d and expenses to £67 4s 4d. A vote of thanks to Mr and Mrs T. Hastings for running the produce stall at the gala day was carried. The ladies aoncerncd were thanked for their services in the "Selling of tickets and in the running of the tea rooms.

It, was decided that the Borough Council be written to thanking it for tho remission of the general rate granted to the club. It was decided to paint the club house (two cioats), to top-dress the whole of the greens, and to erect at the corner of the ■ pavilion a shelter-shed, with conveniences, for the ladies, providing the latter defray the cost of erection. The secretary reported having received a donation towards tho club funds from Mr Dean and a letter of appreciation is to be sent to tho donor. A smoke concert. is to be held early in June, the first of winter social activities.
