THE FRANKLIN SEAT.
TWO CANDIDATES IN FIELD. POSSIBILITY OF TWO OTHERS. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, May 21. The date of the Franklin by-election is still uncertain as the Registrar ot Electors has not yet received the writ. In the meantime, the various parties are active. Only two candidates are 'in the Held as yet, Mr McLennan, who is regarded as the Reform Party’s official representative, and the Rev. AV. C. AVood, who is standing against all comers.
Mr McLennan’s supporters consider lie will be Welcomed as a candidate by nil parts of .the district. Fifty representative men from Pukekolie and the neighbourhood met last night, and, with one or two dissentients, decided to give Mr McLennan the fullest possible support. The final choice of the official Reform candidate will be made on Monday. The Liberal Party has made no announcement up to the present as to its intention. The ultimate decision rests with Mr AYilford, to whom a recommendation will be made in due course. The Labour Party has made no official announcement as yet, and the final choice will be made by the national executive of the party.
