THE SILK DUTIES.

REDUCTIONS ANNOUNCED

LONDON, May 20. Mr Winston Churchill, Chancellor of the Exchequer, announced that the customs duty on natural silk waste had been reduced from 1/6 to a lla pound, raw silk 4/- to 3/-’and on made-up articles from 33 1-3 to 10 per cent, where the value of tho silk component does not exceed 20 per cent, of tile value of the article and two per cent, where it does not exceed five per cent. The duty on imported artificial silk tissue remains at 3/6 a pound.—A. and N.Z. cable.
