BOGUS “SAINT.”
EXCITEMENT IN CALCUTTA.
BARBARISM AND SUPERSTITION
CALCUTTA, May 15.
Tho scandalous case in which an alleged Mahoimnedan saint, who was actually a beggar and a rascal, as well as not being of tho Mahonnnedian faith, and who was buried in the middlo of the food market at the spot where ho was mostly patronised by Europeans, and where he way accustomed to beg, and whero he died, is still unsettled after many weeks of argument. Yesterday tho matter was heatedly debated by the Calcutta Corporation. A special committee recommended the exhumation of the body, but the Mayor (Mr C. It. Das) recoipmehded that the papers be submitted to the Government Advocato General regarding tho Corporation’s light to interfere with the grave. Tho incident shows how thin is the barrier, even iii Calcutta, between barbarism'and the most revolting superstition.
