Arrangements have almost been completed for the entertainment and sipht-seeting of 400 American tourists who will arrive at Auckland on the morning of Monday, December 21 next, on the 20,000-ton Cunard liner Carinthia, from New York and Pacific ports. It is recognised by officers of the Tourist Department and. others that this unique visit will bo an important one from the point of view of future development of the Dominion' as a tourist retide?,vous, and no effort is being spared to make the short stay of the Carinthia-’s passengers in the North Island a memorable and happy experience. . “We quite realise the importance of this visit,” stated Mr Wilson, of the Tourist Department. I expem- that at- least 75 per cent, of the 400 will return to this country at some time or another, provided they have a good time, and there is nm reason why they should not. New Zealand lias ‘the scenic goods,’ and we want to display Wilson stated that it would be a difficult matter to make travelling arrangements for 400 tourists just before Christmas, when the greater part of the population was on the move, and when ordinary overseas tounsts were beginning to arrive for the summer season. They anticipated no trouble, however, and already had arrangements for the tour well advanced. ' , . , , "The South Island will not be included in the itinerary.
