THE PRINCE'S TOUR.
ENTHUSIASM IN CAPETOWN.
CAPETOWN, May 1The Prince of Wales has arrived, and was enthusiastically welcomed. Capetown crowds are noted for demonstrative enthusiasm, but it is generally admitted the Prince’s welcome far surpasses anything previously experienced. The illuminations are on a scale hitherto unknown. The principal streets were a dense mass of Europeans, coloured natives and Indians, mingling in common enthusiasm. It was remarked during the morning that the Prince's famous 6mile was not so much in evidence as usual, but his demeanour and affability generally made the happiest impression. Undoubtedly the long-looked for visit has commenced under the most favourable auspices.
The Prince was installed as Chancellor of the Capetown University.—A. and N.Z. cable.
