A match between A teams representative of the Northern and Manawatu Clubs was played on the courts of the former on Saturday, the home team winning by 13 sets and 121 games to 13 sets and 79 games. PALMERSTON NORTH BEAT OTAKI. A match between teams from the Otaki and Palmerston North Clubs was played on the Linton street courts, Palmerston North winning by 16 sets to two. The local team was a very strong one and the visitors had no chacnce at all of even approaching divided honours. TERRACE END CHAAIPIONSHIPS. The final of the Terrace End Club’s ladies’ championship was played on Saturday afternoon, Mijb D. Wallace proving the winner. The men’s championanip has not yet been deoided. The final in the ladies’ division resulted as follows: Miss D. Wallace beat Miss V. &_4, 6—3. A challenge rose bowl goes with the ladies’ event. PALMERSTON NORTH CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.
The Palmerston North Club’s men’s and ladies’ ohampionships are now approach ing finality and tho keenest interest is evinced in the matches of the latter stages. The draw for the sixth round as as follows : Men.—S. Burgess or J. Carter v. H. J. Thompson; F. MeLachlan v. E. D. Andrews; R. Clem v. R. V. Hooper; A. W. Thompson or J. T. AlcDonald, a bye. SUNDAY TENNIS. DISPUTE IN SYDNEY. SYDNEY, March 7. The Labour Aldermen as a party have decided to resist any action, legal or otherwise, having for its object the frustration of the resolution of the City Council granting permission to play tennis and other games in the city parks on Sunday. Some of the courts are booked for play to-morrow. —Press Association. DAVIS CUP. CHALLENGES RECEIVED. NEW YORK, March 6.
