FROZEN MEAT.

Dalgety and Company, Ltd., report having received the following cablegram from their London house, under dato of the sth inst.: —“Lamb: Now Zealand prime crossbred lamb, Canterbury heavy, llod; light, 12jjd; ’North Island, heavy, Hid, light 12}d. Steady demand for Now Zealand lamb; market is weaker. Mutton: New Zealund prime crossbred mutton, North Island, heavy, 7i<l; light, 9jju. Demand for New Zealand mutton runs principally on light weight. Beef: New Zealand prime ox beef hinds, s^d; fores 4|d. Good demand for New Zealand beef; market is firm. Australian frozen meat: *Good average quality crossbred lamb, Australian heavy, 10id; light, lli-d. Better demand for Australian lamb. Good average quality crossbred mutton, light, 7d. Demand for Australian mutton is poor.” The New Zealund Meat Producers’ Board has received tho following cable from its London Office, dated 6th March, 1925, advising Smithfield delivered prices at that date as follows: —N.Z. wethers and maiden ewes: Canterbury quality, selected brands, 56/under 9jjd, 57/64 B,Jd, 65/72 7|d; other brunds, 56/under 9d, 57/64 Bd, 65/72 7d. N.Z. ewes: 64/under Canterbury lamb: Canterbury quality 36/under 12jd, 37/42 12|d, 43/50 Hid, seconds lljd; selected brands, 36/under other brands, first quality, 42/under 12d, seconds llid. N.Z. beef: Ox lores 4§d, hinds s|d ; cow fores hinds sd. Argentine chilled beef: Ox fores s|d, hinds Argentine frozen beef: Ox fores, 4“d, hinds 6id. Frozen pork: 80/1201b, not quoted, 120/1801b Bid. Frozen veal: Not quoted. Levin and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their London agents, dated 6th March, 1925:—Frozen meat quotations (prices on a "delivered” basis, i.e., including storage charges, cartage, tolls, etc.): Down lambs, 2/.-42’s, 12jjd per lb; best North Island, 28-42’s 12id; ordinary North Island, 28-42’s, 12d; second quality lambs llid. Best North Island wether sheep. 48-64’s, BJd; 64-72 a, 7fd; ordinary, 48-64’s Bid. North Island ewes, 48-64’s, 7-id; 64-72’s. 6id. New Zealand prime ox beef. 160-220*s, sid. As compared with last week’s quotations, lamb is id per l,b cheaper, ewes gd per lb dearer, heavy wethers id per lb cheaper, others unchanged. The market for mutton is weaker, particularly for heavy weights; lamb steadier with fair demand.

STOCK MARKET. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., Palmerston North, report:— During the week wo had sales at Ilimitangi, Rongotea, Palmerston North, and Feilding. At Feitding on Monday wo had a fair entry of both sheep and cattle. The attendance of buyers was moderate and prices wore in favour of vendors. We quote:—Fat lambs 21s 6d, b.f. 2-tooths 28s cull lambs 12s lOd, store ewes 17s 6d; cult ewes 12s 3d; fat cows £6, £6 10s to £6 17s 6d, heavy; fat cows £4 IQs to £5 10s, light and aged; forward cows £3, £3 10s, to £3 18s; storo cows 31s 6d to £2 10s; spg. heifers £6 ss, £B, to £8 10s; dairy cows £3 5s to £5 ss. At our Rongotea sale on Wednesday there was a heavy yarding of cattlo and a small entry of sheep. There was a good attendance of the public and prices throughout wero well maintained. Fat ewes 325; 2-toath ewes 23s 6d, small; aged eswes, 17s 2d; -forward owes, 21s; fat cows £5, £5 10s, £5 15s, £6 2s 6d to £6 15s; f. and f. cows £4, £4 10s, to £4 16s; boner cows £2 10s, £3 10s to £3 15s; store cows, 35s to 47s 6d; cull cows 20s to 255; potter bulls, to £5; weaner heifers, 16s, 25s to 355. At our Palmerston North salo on Thursday there was practically no sale owing, no doubt, to the weather conditions and tho entry was passed in. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their Tailiapo sale held on the 4th inst., as follows:—We hod a yarding of 5000 sheep and about 70 cattle, bidding was brisk throughout and wo report a very good sale, prices being as follow :—Twotooth ewes 35s 4d to £2; 4 and 5-yr ewes to 33s 4d; aged ewes 22s 10d to 24s Id; fat ewes to 325; cull owes 13s 2d to 20s 6d; lambs 14s 6d to 20s; cull lambs 9s; 2-th wethers 28s 6d to 345; aged S.D. rams 3|gns to 6jgns. Cattlo 6old at late rates. A very good line of 600 odd 4 and 5-yr ewes on account of Mr B. G. Grice sold in conjunction with Messrs Dalgety and Go. realised 36s Id and 365.

SKIN, HIDES AND TALLOW SALES. At the sale of hides, skins and tallow at Wellington on Friday there was a fair attendance of buyers. Skins: Dry and salted skins firm at last sale prices. • halfbred 162 d to 18i<l, fine crossbred 16id to 18d, medium-coarse crossbred 15s to 17Jd, short to half wools 10id to 143 d, lambs 13d to 183 d, dead and damaged crossbred 12d to 15id, inferior and badly damaged 6d to 12d, pelts 9id to 123 d, damp, salted, and green 7s 6d to 15s 2d, pelts, salted, 4s 6d to 6s, lambs salted 4s to 8s 2d. Hides: As compared with the laH, sale prices, heaviest and mediums were on a par, whilst lights tvero from |d to id easier. Kip and yearling showed a decline of id to id. Calf was on a par. Ox, heavy, 70ib and over 9id; heavy, 591 b to 691 b, 9gd to 9id; medium, 531 bto 581 b, 7|d to 8d ; light, 451 b to 521 b, 63d to 7d; cut, slippy and inferior, 4gd to 7d; cow, heavy, 531 b and over, 6gd to 63d; medium, 451 b to 52!b, 6gd ; light, 331 b to-441b, sfd to 6|d; cut.’lippy and inferior, 3id to 53d; bull, stag, 4d to 4id; yearlings, 111 bto 161 b, 63d to 83d ; 171 bto 321 b, 63d to 7^d; calfsuperior, up to 101 b, 83d; medium-good, up to 101 b, Bjd to 143 d; damaged, up to 101 b, 2d to 123 d. Tallow : In casks 32s 6d ; in tins etc., 19s 6d to 28s 6d. Horse hair 18id.

DAIRY PRODUCE CONTROL. A CANTERBURY PROTEST. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, March 7. The Canterbury Chamber of Commerce has issued a circular protesting against the action of the Dairy Control Board in regard to the marketing of produce overseas. The circular concludes: “The world has had an extraordinary example of the disastrous failure of this class of Socialistic legislation in Russia. It seems obvious that no responsible Labour Government would to-day repeat this, but the extreme Socialistic party will welcome such orders-in-council from the Reform Government as substantial contributions to a future Communistic regime.”

WOOL MARKET. MORE INQUIRY AT BRADFORD. LONDON, March 5. On the Bradford tops market there is slightly more inquiry. Prices are unchanged.—A. and N.Z. cable.
