CHARGE OF MURDER.

SIMPKIN ON TRIAL. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Feb. 11. The trial has commenced in the Supreme Court of James- Simpkin, who is charged with the rourder_ of his wife at Remuera on October 5. Mr Meredith, for tho Grown, said it was clear that Simpkin and his wife had arranged to meet that evening and that ho had cut her throat with a- razor. Their married life had not been happy and there had been considerable quarrelling. The evidence would show that prisoner ill-treated his wife and on one occasion she complained that he had beaten her. Eventually, she declined to live-with hun.
