WIRELESS FEAT
NEW ZEALAND TO AMERICA. TWO-WAY COMMUNICATION. Per Press Association. ASHBURTON, Feb. 10. Mr W. M. Dawson, of station SAL,, last night got into two-way communication with U6AWT, San Francisco. It »s understood that he is tho first New Zealand or Australian amateur to communicate with .America using a five : watt valve with normal power input. He used the bare 4 watts (350 volts JO milliamps). Static interference increased as tho evening advanced. The calls were sent out on a wave length of 88 metres, tho reply being received at 8.42 p.m.
Owing to heavy (static, it was impracticable to proceed' with 40 metre tests and conditions in the States were also bad, so the communications wero discontinued. Later the Californiau station was heard calling but static and interference mado it impossible to copy the messages. Mr Dawson is about to conduct, under special Government permission, tests on £9 metres with the States.
