BOXING CONTEST.
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Feb. 9. At the Town Hall the professional middleweight contest between Eddie Parker (New Zealand) and Vic. Rowe (Australia) was very disappointing, and only lasted four rounds. Parker led nil tho way and Rowo appeared to lack condition. In the fourth round Rowe was knocked down several times and tho referee awarded the fight to Parker.
A Waipukurau Celestial, whoso business and residence is in the business area and consequently has but little ground for gardening, has converted a flat roof ovor the premises into a garden, where the profitable, and unromantic pumpkin, and other marketable commodities, flourish well. A Press Association telegram from Christehurch states that after being held up for a week, tho Matutua took aboard a meat cargo to-day, about 40 men responding to tho company's call for labour. Tho men accepted work at the special rate, of pay provided in the award for loading meat. The men's decision surprised the company, and no meat being alongside the men were employed loading butter till the afternoon.
