OUTBREAK OF FIRE.
WASHHOUSE DESTROYED. Shortly after 10.30 o'clock this morning the fire brigade received a call to 19 Fitzroy street, where a fire had broken out in the eight-roomed residence of Mr W. Pascoe. On the arrival of the brigade it was found that the water pressure (about 251 b) was too low to bo of any use and it was necessary to couple up the turbine pump which increased the pressure considerably. After half an hour the flames were subdued., but not before the washbouse (winch adjoined tho house), the workshop, dark-room and a shed were destroyed. The rear of the dwelling was considerably damaged by fire and water. Miss E. Pascoe, in conversation with a "Standard" reporter, stated that while engaged in domestic duties she bad occasion to go to the wasbhouse and noticed flames issuing from the workshop, where Mr Pascoe had been working prior to going to town. The flames spread rapidly and by the time the brigade arrived they had reached the house. ■ •Willing helpers assisted in removing the furniture from the dwelling to a place of safety. The house was insured for £6OO, but the furniture was not covez'ed.
