SYKES WILL CASE.

, SETTLEMENT REACHED. LONDON, Feb. 4. A settlement has been reached in the Sykes will case. The Judge, by consent, pronounced against the 1921 will, subject to a certain payment and to the parties agreeing not to propound the 1916 will.—A. and N.Z. cable.

A will made in 1921 by Mr Harry Tatton-Sykes, a bachelor member of the famous Sledmere family, of Malton, Yorkshire, leaving £60,000 to Lily Ansell, the actress, was challenged by the testator's brother, Cyril, on the ground that the testator drank excessively and was incapable of appreciating the contents of the will. Miss Ansell'B counsel said that owing to the inability of her husband, Harris, to keep a family, she went on the stage in 1912. The testator immediately fell in love with her, and they lived happily as man and wife. On'the eve of going to the war in 1916 Sykes willed half his estate to Miss Ansell, whose desire for divorce from Harria had not been achieved. The testator learned in 1921 that his brother Cyril's will did not include him, so he destroyed the. 1916 will, in which, in the event of Miss Ansell predeceasing the estator, her share was to go to Cyril.
