BOWLING NOTES.

(Ey "Trundler.") '.Most local greens have been deserted during the holidays, but the Northern Club has staged one or two small tournaments for its members. Competition matches resumed to-day with Ainslie Shield games on the Palmerston North green. The local teams which participated in the Wanganui tournament did very well. Jolly won his section and the others were just behind the section winners in nearly every case. Jolly reached the semi-final but failed against Tilley (Wangpnui) who beat Gordon (Raponui) in the final. In recent years Jolly has been prominent in tournaments, but has just failed in the last games which, after all, count. A win for him at Wanganui would have been popular. Some of the local players do not speak very well of the management of the tourney and complained of a lack of interest shown in the visitors by the centre, executive. There was no function arranged for their entertainment, but this, after all, might have- been a blessing in disguise to many. One or two incidents related to "Trundler" certainly indicated very lax management. Many local players do not speak very well of the"greens at Wanganui, except that of St. John's Club, which was in first-class order. It was unfortunate that the weather at first should.have been so wet. A curious fact, but one which is thoroughly substantiated, is that tlio game of bowls is good for the eyes. Hardly ever do you find a bowler who has to wear spectacles for failing sight. The eyes are kept in splendid training by the continual alertness they learn in pursuit of this pleasant game. Fortunately in nearly all towns now bo*ling groens are available. As eye trainers they are nearly equal to rifle ranges.—Otago Daily Times. The Palmerston North Club's green is in splendid order and presents a fresh appearance after the rain. The work of erecting tho new pavilion for the Palmerston North Club is to be commenced at once. The ©id pepper tree which provided ■ shelter for many years has gone to make room for the new building. Takaro Club will be represented at the Dominion tourney by Morgan, Newth, Kckersley, Tantrum (skip). Palmerston North Club will be represented by Rowling, Dixoa, Trott, Jones (skip). N. H. Nash, of the same club,' will play No. 3 for h,. J. Hill's rink from Wellington Club, of which he is also a member. The following teams will represent Takaro in inter-club matches on Saturday: Against the Northern Club. On Takaro green: Giorgi, Stone, Ferguson, Flint (skip); on tho Northern green: Morgan, Newth, Roskruge, Tantrum (skip). At the Dominion tournament in Wellington Taknro Club will be represented in tho singles by J. Tantrum, in the p.i'rs by Morgan and Tantrum (skip). Morgan and Tantrum hold the Manawatu Centres champion of champion pairs.
