PROFICIENCY EXAMINATION RESULTS. Tlie results of tho proficiency examination in connection with tho local primary schools were released by the headmasters late yesterday afternoon and are as follow : COLLEGE STREET. Tho children of the primer classes yesterday provided a pleasing little concert which was attended by parents. Tlio recitations and songs in which they had been instructed by Aliss Govun and other teachers of the primary department were ,enioyably rendered, the combined singing, in particular, being most pleasing. At Fitzherbert East (Aokautere) School, (lie six candidates presented gained their proficiency certificates. They wore as follow:—Juclc Uopcroft, Gladys Lankshear, Tui Gosling, Inu Christiansen, Freda Vowell, Colin Brill. WIIAKARONG A. At Whakaronga four pupils were presented for the examination for proficiency certificates and all passed us follow: —Alan Crawford, Edward Fuller. Andrew McMurruy and Frank Vnutier. BUNNYTHORPE. Proficiency: W. Powell. J. Webber, G. Scheldt, N. Eggleton. Competency: D. Ransom. PRIZE GIVING AT WEST END. The annual prize-giving ceremony of the West End School was - held yesterday, there being a fair attendance of parents. In addressing the assembled children, the headmaster (Mr A. N. Thompson) stated that unfortunately they were losing two of their teachers —Misses Piggot and M. Jamieson. lie paid a tribute lo the work of these ladies and expressed the regret felt at their departure. During the year there had been 155 new pupils admitted to the school, while 146 had loft, so that tho strength was not much altered. The work of the school during the year had been good, and in the sports department some excellent results had been obtained. Special thanks were due to Miss Jamieson in this direction, and also to those who had donated prizes. The chairman of the committee, Mr C. 11 Whitehead, then briefly addressed the scholars and expressed the pleasure it gave him to again see them. He congratulated them on the record they held, and exhorted them, no matter where they might go in after years, to always remember that they were once pupils of West End. Ho congratulated Miss Jamieson on the success attending her efforts m connection with the sports department, and said he did not know what the school would do without her. lie concluded by wishing both the pupils and stall' the compliments of the season. 'Mrs Whitehead then presented the prizes (the li=t of which was published yesterday), each child being applauded on approaching the tabic. Special prizes donated by Mrs I’rasei and Mr G. Lyne for essays were won by Donald Humphreys (“England” and My Work in tho Garden”) and Ruth Christensen (“My Work in the House ).
