BRITAIN’S FUTURE.
NOW IN BETTER HANDS. GREATER CONFIDENCE EXPRESSED Received December 9, 10.5 a.m. SYDNEY, Dec. 9. Sir George Fenwick, while in. London, attended a meeting of chambers of .commerce of the Empire. The question of preference to the Dominions was discussed and hardly a dissentient voice was raised aaginst the principle. With the return to power of the Baldwin Ministry, he said, the whole question had assumed a different form. Undoubtedly the decisions of the Imperial Conference would now be. given effect and without much delay. .Thero was no doubt now that the political future of Britain was in better hands and that trade would revive. The Labour Ministry had a damping effect on the trade, Imt now greater confidence was expressed. There was also a keener desire to put capital ini o ventures which would have been shunned under Labour rule.. “Another matter of the utmost importance to Australia and New. .Zealand,” eoneluded Sir George Fenwick, “is'the Singapore lia.se. The general feelingmanifested after the victory of tin Conservative Party hud taken place was that the- Singapore base would be established.” There is little doubt in his mind that it will be carried into effect almost immediately.—Press Association.
