KAIRANGA COUNTY.

MEETING OF COUNCIL. The monthlj- mooting of the Kairanga County Council was held to-day when there were present: Crs- Small, Moody, Collls, Choetham, Mildon, Batchelor, and Anderson. Leave of absence was granted Crs Lancaster and Hopcroft. Owing to the absence of the first-named, Cr Small was elected to the chair. CORRESPONDENCE. From J. Hannah, chairman of No. 9 District Highways Council, advising that the surfacing of four roads, at a total cost of £54,434. had been approved at the last- meeting of the Alain Highways Board, provided that the expenditure was spread over a period of three years. —It. was resolved that the Alain Highways Board again have its attention drawn to the unfairness of granting only £1 for £2 in respect to Foxton line and Napier road, when other local bodies were being subsidised at the rate of £1 for £l. From the New Zealand Society of Civil Engineers asking that the council’s engineer be .again permitted to attend the next annual general meeting of the society, which is to open ill Christchurch on Tuesday, February 17. —Engineer given permission to attend. From the. Aledical Officer of Health, Wellington, enquiring whether the council had yet appointed a sanitary inspector, and suggesting that, if this had not so far been done, an appointment bo made. —The clerk reported that Air Higgins, local Government health inspector, was prepared to accept the position without additional remuneration. —It was decided that ho he appointed.

From the Receiver of Lund Revenue, Wellington, advising that tho sum of £35 9s 3d had been placed t.o the credit of the council, being the amount of accrued “thirds.” contained in the council’s proposal of October 16. —Received. From I l ’, llewett, Feilding, forwarding a lengthy explanation of his reason for taking gravel from Rangitikei line.—Explanation accepted. From the Bimnytliorpe School Committee soliciting the donation of 20 yards of metal to he used in the laying down of a concrete playing area at the new .school, this being half of the quantity required. —Request to be complied with. GENERAL. The Awapuni ranger reported that he had impounded 57 head of stock during the month, fees amounting to £3 ss. Several successful prosecutions had been made. The Fitzherbert ranger reported that he had impounded 82 head of stock. It wn.s decided to give public notice that in future any person removing council property without permission would be prosecuted; The contractor for the Aokaufcro road deviation, Air J. Bambety, waited upon the council with a request that it grant him financial assistance in connection with the finishing of his contract. It was decided that the chairman, members for the riding and the engineer meet the eontractor on the spot and go into the mutter. It was decided that. a protest bo made to the Minister in charge of the Y’aluation Department in connection with tho amount charged for the revision of the valuation roll.

The engineer was authorised to purchase a bitumen sprayer of a modern design. Accounts amounting 10 £2912 6s 6d were passed for payment. BANK BALANCES. TRANSFERS.
