NEW RACING PERMITS. EARLY ALLOCATION EXPECTED. AUCKLAND, Dec. 5. “On ihe whole I found the racecourses of the far north very well equipped,” said the Hon. R. F. Bollard (.Minister of Internal Affairs) last evening. “Members of the different clubs are keen to satisfy the demands of the public in making improvements suggested for their convenience. 1 am going to the South Island next week on a similar mission to that on which I was engaged in the north, and I expect that it will be possible to make the Government’s announcement of the allocation of the new permits early in the new year. 1 am in consultation with the Racing and Trotting Conferences regarding permits, and I think we can agree very largely as to the clubs that should get the permits to be allocated.”
J. Gray, son of Hector Gray, made his appearance at Takapuna as a jockey, but lie had some very hard horses to ride. For instance, Spoony and Stork are not easy mounts. lie has not had a great deul of experience in the Dominion, and Ins nearest approach to a winner was on Xastori, which finished second !o King’s Speech. Gloaming is reported to have been showing signs of soreness at Riccarton, and has been indulged in very light work. R. J. Mason had booked space for three horses for Auckland, but has since wired cancelling the railway reservation. He may, of course, subsequently rebook, but at present it looks as if Gloaming, Nincompoop. and Chignon are unlikely runners at Ellersl/e.
