WELLINGTON SPORTS POSTPONED.
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Dec. 7. Early on Saturday heavy vain commenced to fall and continued until midday, necessitating the postponement of all cricket fixtures. The public schools’ tennis tournament, which was commenced on Friday, was postponed to next Saturday. Considerable interest was taken in the naval cutter race between crews of 11.M.5. Dunedin and Retone ex-Xavals. A gootl race was won by Petone by a length and a half. The following Wellington oarsmen have been nominated for positions in the New Zealand eight for Australia: XV. West (Wellington), G. U. Corndiss (Petone), R. X. Wakelin, F. G. Osborne, 11. R. Heard, P. Hereford, J. M. F. Johns (Star). Nominations from other centres have pot yet come in. The final selection of the crew and extras to make the trip to Australia will be made as soon us possible after the championship regatta cn June 29. At Island Bay, the Life Saving Club’s opening run-out resulted; Marunui, 63, 1; Island Bay, 67, 2; Lyall Bay, 55, 3.
