thisNmorning’s SITTING. \ BREACHES OF TIIE BY-LAWS. Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., presided over this morning’s sitting of tho Magistrate’s Court. For carrying passengers on their motor cycles, Win. Cameron, Leonard Dunstall and Arthur Tierney were each fined 10s, with costs 7s. On a similar chargo Leslie Win. Redslniw was fined £l, with costs 7s. A fine of 10s and costs was inflicted on Albert Hundley for riding a bicycle on the footpath. Frederick Win. Ebbett, for driving a, motor...c,;\r round a corner on the wrong side of -the rOacl,. was mulcted in the sum of £l, with' costs 7s. For leaving a motor car standing in Rangitikei street for a longer period than ten minutes, George Lowe was mulcted in the sum of 10s, with costs 7s. A similar fine was inflicted on Ashton Barker for leaving his car standing in the Square. The acting-borough traffic manager, Mr F. A. Phelan, proceeded against several offenders in respect of breaches of the borough by-laws. For riding a bicycle on the footpath, Aubrey Mewton was fitted 10s and costs 7s. A fine of £2, with costs 7s, was inllieted on Joseph Robertson for driving a motor cycle at an excessive speed. Failure to provide lights on their bicycles cost 12. Turner and James McGill each 10s. with costs 7s. W. Rowland, for driving at an excessive speed, was mulcted in the sum of £2 and costs. Failure to observe the rule of the road on two occasions resulted in Hugo Bruno being fined £1 und 10s, with total costs 14s. DAMAGE TO PROPERTY.

Two youths, Horace Dawson and Victor Regan, appeared on a charge that, on November 2, they did wilfully damage property of John Ax, of 85 Grey street, of a total value of ss. Both accused pleaded not. guilty. Senior-Sergeant O’Grady explained that the two accused had pulled palings off a fence. After hoaring three witnesses, the Magistrate inflicted fines of 10s in each case, with costs 7s. The two accused were ordered to pay 2s 6d each towards repairing the damage. ALLEGED BREACH OF PROBATION. Patrick Joseph O’Connor, alias Patrick Joseph Murphy, was charged with failing to comply with the conditiohs of his release upon probation. On the application of Senior-Sergeant O’Gradv, a remand was granted to Wellington, where the offence is alleged to have been committed. RECEIVING STOLEN COQDS. Ttipa Kirona appeared on a charge that she did receive two hankerchiefs, of a total value of ss, knowing them to liavo been dishonestly obtained. She was further charged with receiving one ninon veil, of a value of 3s, under similar circumstances. Senior-Sergeant O’Grady explained that the articles had been stolen by the accused's little daughter and had not been returned by the accused, into whose possession they had been given. Accused was convicted and ordered to make good the value of tho stolen goods and pay costs 5s in each case. WANDERING STOCK. On the information of Mr I. Baldwin, ranger for the Kairanga County Council, D. R. Wells and. C. Puklowski were each fined 10s. with costs, for allowing stock to wander. FISHING WITHOUT LICENSES. Three youths, William Douglas McEwen. Stanley McNab, and Robert Milverton. appeared on charges that they did fish for trout in the Manawutu river without a license and that they did use an unsportsmanlike device, namely, a set line, for tiie purpose of taking trout. Mr P. Willson, ranger for the Wellington Acclimatisation Society, conducted the prosecution. All the accused pleaded guilty. Finos of £2, with costs, were inflicted on each charge. MAINTENANCE CASES. For being £23 in arrears in his maintenance order in favour of Rachel Sasien, Gabriel Sasien was convicted and sentenced to one month’s hard labour, the warrant to be suspended so long as he complies with the order and pays 2s 6d petweek off the arrears. Edward 11. Armstrong was chanted with ■being £6 in arrears in his maintenance order in favour of Alice Armstrong, and was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended so long as he complies with the order and pays 10s per week off the arrears. Thomas Palmer Mitchell, who was £25 in arrears, in connection. with an order in favour of Florence Collins, was sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment, to be released on payment of tho arrears.
