MANGAHAO POWER.
AVAILABLE ON DECEMBER 20. TO MAN AW AT U-OR OU A POWER BOARD. An important announcement in regard to the supply of electrical power Irom the Mungahao liydro-electric scheme to the Manawatu district was contained in a special report presented to the meeting of the ManawatuOroua Power Board this afternoon by the chief engineer, Mr W. A. Waters. The report stated at the outset that Air Waters had arranged with Mr Garvey, district electrical engineer at Shannon, to take supply from Mangahao on December 20. “At the present time,” continued the report, “one line from Bunnytliorpe to Mangaore is nearly completed, and this line wifi be operated at tl.ooo volts straight off the generators in the meantime, as it is of sufficient capacity to transmit? the supply required. “Ihc Public Works Department is pushing on with this line in order to have it in readiness by the date mentioned. During the present week wo will shut down between midnight and 3 a.m. on one night to enable the department’s 110,UU0 volt lines to bo erected over the top of our 11,000-volt lines to connect on to the main Government sub-station at Bunnythorpe. CLOSING FEILDING STATION. “At the same time while power is off we will erect the connecting wires required to take the supply in later on, when all the connections arc eomplete al Mungahao. We will also pick up Feilding through Bunnythorpe oil 20th December and shut down the Feilding station permanently on that date. Unfortunately, tiie auto transformer ordered by cable from England lust August lias not arrived to give us the correct voltage (2400 volts) for Feilding. However, we have other transformers in stock, which we can connect up by very unusual connections, which will fill the bill in the meantime, and enable us to transfer the single-phase load at Feilding on to our 11,000-volt three-phase lines. These transformers will be temporarily located in the power house yard at Feilding, as it requires six transformers to get the result desired. This work is now in hand.
“All arrangements are now in hand to carry out transfer of our loads on to Mangahao by the date mentioned, the actual work of the final change over to lie carried out in the small hours of the morning, when the loads arc practically nil.”
