LONGBURM SCHOOL.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The Longburn Sciiool Committee met last evening, there being present: Messrs Meehan, Mahoney, Flanagan, Tanner, Palmer and Mellor (in the chair). A letter was read from the local Tennis Club submitting a copy of its rules which were approved. - . A visiting committee, consisting, of Messrs Meehan, Flanagan, Mellor. and Palmer were elected for the balance of the term.
A vote of sympathy was passed with Miss Piercy, assistant mistress, who met with a serious accident through a fall from a cycle. The sum of £ls. it was _ reported, had been collected to date in aid of the sports meeting and breaking-up ceremony to be held on December 18. The headmaster and staff were complimented on the satisfactory results of the annual examinations. Accounts passed for payment totalled £4 Us6d. The headmaster reported that the roll number was* 154 and average for the month 113.8; The average attendance should have been at least 140, but was reduced by measles, etc. He proposed to make application to the board to have this quarter deleted in calculating the year’s attendance. For the first week in November the average fell to 92. The annual, examinations had been completed under difficult circumstances but with very satisfactory results. Of a total of 102 pupils examined in the standard classes, 90 had been promoted, while half of the failures were newcomers. The school was examined thoroughly by Inspectors Blackie and Cowles on November 17th and 18th and proficiency certificates would be issued as the result of their examinations.
