Counsel for plaintiff said his client was 30 years of age, and until May, 1922, was in good health and employment, managing a branch of a business in Dunedin at £5 a week. After her arrival in Auckland with her mother and sister, in February of last year, she developed a.u ecopthalmic goitre, and was treated by 'Dr Lowe, and also at the Auckland hospital, and improved greatly. Later, plaintiff was examined by Dr Horton, who said she was tit for an operation, . and that that was the only safe and proper course. However, friends advised her that Salaman could euro her without- an operation. Salaman treated her with extraordinary mixtures and an electric current. Plaintiff got worse, and after nearly a , year it was discovered that. the basis of Salaman’s treatment was opium, and as a result plaintiff contracted the opium habit, arid, it was questionable whether her condition could be successfully treated. Dr Horton had seen her since, and had declared that an operation was now absolutely impossible. Evidence for the plaintiff was commenced, including that of doctors, ami the case was adjourned and will be continued tomorrow.
