NEW ZEALAND CUP MEETING. SUN ART WINS THE BIG RACE. Per Presi Auociation. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 9. The CanTeruury Jockey Club’s Metropolitan meeting opened yesterday. The sky was cloudless, but a keen wind was blowing. There was an excellent attendance, including Lady Jellicoe. The totalisator returns were £68,451, compared with £71,992 for the first day last year. Additional results: — NEW ZEALAND CUP ol' 2100 sovs; second 420 sovs, third 210 sovs. Two miles. WINNER OF NEW ZEALAND CUP. Sunart, who won the New Zealand Cup on Saturday, is an aged gelding by Sunny Luke—Latchet. He is owned by the popular sportsman, Mr R. A. McKenzie, of Palmerston North, and trained by T. Lloyd, at Woodville. Sunart, who is in his seventh year, won once as a two-year-old and once as a three-year-old m the colours of Air J. B. Reid, anti was then sold to his present owner, for whom he started off unluckily, running second to Royal Star in the Royal Handicap at the meeting held at Ricearton in honour of the Prince of Wales. At four years he won the Woodville Handicap, the Feilding Easter Handicap and the Wellington Autumn Handicap. As a live-year-old he won the Wellington Handicap at the spring fixture, but broke down while contesting the New Zealand Cup, won by Royal Star. Following on a year’s spell, he was placed twice prior to winning the President’s Handicap, and the Liverpool Handicap at the Manawatu Summer meeting. Later in tiie season lie won the Wanganui Cup and the Manawatu Longburn Handicap. Last season he was only twice successful, in the Autumn Handicap at Woodville and the Hawke’s Bay Cup and was second in the Canterbury Cup. At the recent Otaki meeting ho_ won the Teone Memorial Stakes, Kilfuire and Tanadees filling the places. RACES AT HAMILTON. HAMILTON, Nov. 9. For the races beautiful weather prevailed and there, was a large attendance. The totalisator handled £31,099 10s, a decrease of £0341 10s. Additional results: Wainiui Hurdles, one mile and a-halt. Tim weather war. fine and the attendance satisfactory for the fourth day of the Y.R.C. spring meeting, but the going was heavy. Sir Dighlock led over the last half nine in the Batman Stakes anil scored easily from the fast finishing Textile. The winner was - ridden by J. Monro. Manacre led always in the Flemington Stakes and won easily, lie claims three wins and one second out of four starts. lie was ridden by E. Dempsey. lie cost 210 guineas. Gloaming was scratched at 12.45 p.m. for the Fisher Plate. Lilyirond was last to the turn, then made the best Fisher Plato finish ever Been, winning easily. The victory was a popular one. Murray King led ell the way in the V. 11.0, Handicap, winning easily, giving J. Fuzzanl his first winning ride. King High led over the last two and a half miles of the Steeples. Peithias piloted the field over the last seven furlongu in the Final Handicap and won by a narrow margin from Tookarby. who was running last in the early part of the journey.
