MANUFACTURE OF SHELLS.
PROPOSAL TO AUSTRALIA. SYDNEY, Dd. 21. Speaking at u ltuu-heoti to Air 11. K. Pratten (Commonwealth Defence MinLler) at Newcastle, the manager of the Broken Hill Proprietary, L.rd., *nid that an offer had been made by Yiekers, Ltd.. Lnglanil, to associate. with the Broken llill Proprietary with the object of manufacturing armour-plate and shells in Australia.
Mr Pratten expressed the hope that within the next, ten years armour-plate would be made in Australia, and that Australians would have an actual scientific basis for their own national defence. He also Imped that within the same period Australia would he linked up with other pints of the Anglo-Saxon race living in the littoral of (he Pacific, thus ensuring for all time peace ill the Pacific. —PrcsAssociation.
