SECOND ROUND AT WIMBLEDON

LONDON, June 25.

At Wimbledon, for the second round of the tennis tournament the weather was very hot.

Brookes defeated the Cingalese D. Rutmann 6-2, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1. Brookes played with all his old skill and force. Miss McKane defeated Mrs Mallory 6-1, 6-0. Mddle Lenglen defeated Miss Clarke 6—o, 6—o. Miss Wills defeated Miss Dransfield 6-0, 6-2. The American Norris Williams defeated the Frenchman Feret 6 —4, 4 —6, B—6. 6—4.

The first doubles matches were played in the centre court, the American Richards and Hunter defeating F. M. B. Fisher and J. Peacock 3—6, 7—5, 6—4, 6—5. On the outer court, , Okamotp and and Hooihve defeated L. OwPu and W. Aif ken 6—2, 6—2, 6—2. The Britishers Gilbert and Kingscote defeated Roupell and Duminv 6—4, 6—3, 6—2.—A. and X.Z. cable.
