Advice that the road between Palmerston North and Wellington was blocked by a slip on the north side of the Packakariki Hill was received in Wellington last evening. The alternative road from Wellington to the Manawatu, via Upper Hutt and. the Akatarawa Valley, is stated to be clear. Nothing should ever be wasted which others can make use of. Just now there are children and others who could make use of garments that have lain by in cupboards for months, or years, perhaps. An opportunity to secure such things is afforded by All Saints' jumble, sale to be held on Saturday next, tho 14th. An appeal, therefore, is made by the committee tor parcels of left-olf clothing, furniture, footwear, produce or anything saleable. Donors are asked to 'phone 6316. The London Daily Telegraph's political observer says the British Government is now in possession of a full explanation from the Wilheknsirnsse regarding the position of Germany and Russia.
