AWARDS FOR BRAVERY.

HUMANE SOCIETY'S DECISIONS,

(Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Juno 5. At a meeting- of the court of directors of the Royal Humane Society, the following- cases were dealt with: Phyllis Watson, aged 14, of the Deaf and Dumb Institute, Sumner, rescued Eunice Houghton from drowning at Sumner on April 7. She was recommended for a framed certificate.

F. D. Stokes, aged 42, who went to the assistance of the two girls in the previous case and brought them ashore was recommended to receive the society's bronze medal. /

Raymond Lawrence Gannaway, who went the assistance of Amelia Bronsi at Napier on December 30 and saved her from drowning, was recommended to receive a bronze medul.

Manga Putere and Kore Waipi, for diving from a launch in to the Waikato river in an endeavour to save the life of Muriel Lovell on January 50, were each recommended for a bronze medal. Lily McLachlan, school teacher, of Queen Charlotte Sound, was recommended for a framed certificate for saving- a child who had fallen oft' a launch in Pelorus Sound on March 11.

Albert Maitland, for rescuing William James from Drowning in Devil g Pool at Invercargill on November 11, was recommended for a certificate.

Geoffrey Hardwin Heal, a schoolboy of Island Bay, was recommended for a silver medal for swimming out to a wrecked launch at Island Bay with a line on January 15. By this means Charles Collins was enabled to reach the shore.

George Annesley was recommended for a silver medal for his good work in the railway tunnel accident at Komaka on November 29. Kathleen Barry Doyle was recommended to receive a framed certificate for jumping from a bridge and rescuing a child in an inlet between Port Ahuriri (Napier) and the lagoon on December 7. The relatives of the late Mana Davi3, who lost his life in endeavouring to save the life of his brother, Huruni Davis, on November 19, were recommended to receive an in memoriam certificate.
