POWER BOARD.

YESTERDAY'S MEETING. Tho meeting of tho ManawatuOroua Power Board was concluded after tho "Standard" went to press yesterday, Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., presiding. Tho statement of accounts as at June 9, 1924, was as follows :—Power fund account ci\, £5047 15s 8d; loan account cr., £4298 4s lOd; Public Trustee cr., £21,846 lis 7d; total cr., £29,192 12s Id; less accounts for payment, £6057 14s 9d; cr. balance, £23,134 17s 4d. Loan money received to date was shown at £IBO,OOO, and the amount expended in wages, materials and advances to power fund account, etc., £159,912 18s 4d, leaving a cr. balance of £20,087 Is Bd. The loan account was as follows:—Total contracts £99,283 0s lid; less paid to date, £89,269 8s 6d; cr. balance £10,013 12s sd. The power fund account was as follows: Amount advanced to consumers £7465 7s lOd; amount refunded to 31/5/24 £3003 14s sd: balance owing on installations £4461 13s sd. The statement was adopted. CORRESPONDENCE. From tho Feilding Borough Council formally advising of its acceptance of the offer of the board to purchase its electrical undertaking.—Received. , From the Kairanga County Council stating that the following roads would be closed to heavy traffic: —No. 4 Line, Fitzherbert, Pahiatua track, Forest Hill road, and Karere road from the Manawatu river to Foxton line. —It was decided to lhank the writers for consideration shown to the board.

From the Oroua County Council stating that tho question of heavy traffic on its roads had been left with the chairman and tho county engineer with power to act.—Mr Vincent stated that tho council would meet the board in the matter of the uso of its roads, and it was decided to reply .thanking the council for its consideration. From the Minister of Lands with reference to financial assistance for returned soldiers, and stating that it was not deemed advisable to ask Parliament to pass legislation placing an electric power board in a more favourable position than a local body.—The chairman and Mr Linklater were appointed to wait on the Minister in this connection, in an endeavour to secure an arrangement more suitable to the board.
