CAB, PLUNGES INTO RIVER. GALLANT RESCUES. BRISBANE, May 26. A tragedy nearly occurred at Coomera Ferry, on Friday. The stationmaster at Tingoora, Mr Gordon Bell, while travelling 'to Southport with Ins family, stopped his. motor-car on the top of the hill overlooking the ferry, and left the vehicle. Someone accidentally stood on the self-starter. The car, which apparently was not declutched, ran down the hill, dashed on to the ferry, and after crashing through the outside end it plunged into the water. The car floated for a few seconds,, and a man named Whally, who was in a boat, rowed to the vehicle and tore off the hood. Mrs Bell was thus able to crawl out, and Mr/Bell rescued two of his children. The baby, aged 18 months, was then seen under the end of the ferry punt. Whally dived in and rescued the child, which is not considered to be in a serious condition. The other occupant suffered from shock, but were otherwise uninjured.

However, two days before the Ormonde was due to leave Sydney, Adrian became ill, and it was thought that he would net be able to leave after all.
