The totalisator took £31,462 10s for the day,, compared with £29,540 for the third day last year, making a total of £96,780 10s for the meeting as compared with £39.452 last year. Believing that the legislation promised in the coming session will considerably enlarge gambling facilities, the Council of Christian Congregations has circulated a businessmen's petition to Parliament urging that no further gambling facilities should be granted to racing or trotting clubs. A letter, signed by Archbishop Julius, the president, and the Rev. J. J. North, secretary to the Council was sent to some 300 business men, whose signatures to the petition were solicited. Accompanying the letter is a memorandum en tho economic aspects of racecourse gambling, signed by Professors Condlifi'e, Murphy, Grossman and Woodthorpe. Andrew Mac Kay, the jockey who was injured at the Dunedin Club's meeting at Wingatui on Saturday, was reported to be sbowing a slight improvement yesteday afternoon.
