On the occusion of the laying of the foundation stone-. of the carved memorial church at Tikitiki, East Coast, the Bishop of Waiapu officiating, there glittered in the sun against the dais two beautiful swords with an historic interest. These were gifts of Queen Victoria to the late Hon. Mokcna Korere and the Hon. Ropata Wahawaha, two distinguished Ngatiporou chief*.
