WAGES OF MINERS.

THREAT OF A STRIKE. LONDON, May 5. Mr Cook, secretary of the Miners' Federation, when speaking at Pontypool, referred to the Court of Inquiry on miners' wages, which had just concluded. He said that unless the Court made some tangible recommendation the inquiry would have been a waste of time. He arranged to meet the coal owners on May 14th, and if the men's proposals were not satisfied, there would be only two alternatives, a strike or an appeal to the Government, which had the power to grant their just demands. —A. and N.Z. cable.
