Rothery, Mayor of Te' Kuiti, was a passenger for the south by this morning’s Main Trunk train. The Mayor, Mr F. J. Nathan, was a passenger to Wellington by this morning’s Alain Trunk train. Two well-known Sussex cricketers, Jesse Hide and Walter Humphreys, have died (states a London cablegram). Mr W. McAlister, postmaster at Cambridge, has been promoted to the position of postmaster at Feilding.

On account of ill-health Mr W. J. Terinent is resigning from the position of secretary of the Wairarapa High School Board of Governors.

Mr J. T. Quin, stationmaster at Masterton, will retire from the service on superannuation on March 31st. He will be succeeded by Air R. T. Aloore, of Auckland.

The friends of Air James Aiken, of Amesbury street, will be pleased to learn that he has returned from Wellington, where he has been undergoing treatment, much improved in health. Superintendent iVtlivcCicy, ofiVer dn charge of the Wellington Police district, yesterday paid a visit of inspection to the Marfcon and Palmerston North police stations. He returned to Wellington this morning.

Air C. Berkeley, advance agent for J. C. Williamson, Ltd., visited Palmerston North this morning to make ai rangements for the production here of the musical comedy, “Sally,” with Aliss Josie Melville in the title role. Air Berkeley left for Wanganui this afternoon.

Wordreached him yesterday afternoon, however, that Lady Beil had met with an accident, and Sir Francis returned it once to Wellington by motor car. The Primo Alinister returned to Wellington from the north yesterday. On Monday ho visited Waiuku Peninsula, and went to the Settlements of Kohe Kohe, Pollok and Awhitu, portions of the Frankton electorate which Air Massey had not bad an opportunity of visiting for some time. He was .met' by gatherings of settlers and was tendered a cordial welcome.

Air Walter Irnpett, the well known musical critio and competitions judge, who has been visiting Palmerston North, returned to Auckland to-day. Mr Impett, who is a recognised authority in the study of voice culture and languages, has gained many notable successes for his students abroad and will probably visit Wellington, Palmerston Nprt|h, Wanganui and Masterton next year on behalf of the Competitions’ Societies in these centres.

Information has been received from Australia by cablegram of the death of Mr Jocelyn B. Percy, one of the foremost financial experts in the Commonwealth. Air Percy, who was about 65 years of age, had been conneoted with various tranches of the Union Bank of Australia since ho was a young man. He was successively manager of the branches at Sydney and Perth, and was 'later transferred to the London branch in the capacity of assistant manager. Hiss next appointment was that of general manager for Australia and New Zealand, a position he held to the time of his retirement about three years ago.

Two appointments tinder the Taranaki Education Board wore made at a special meeting held last week. Air J. W. Connell, now agricultural master at tho New Plymouth Boys’ High School, was selected, subject to the approval of the Department of Education, for the position of agricultural instructor at Stratford which has been created through the granting of an additional instructor in Taranaki. Mr W. F. Goddard, now an accountant in the Education Department, at Wellington, was chosen from among 20 applicants for the position of accountant in the board’s office which was made 1 vacant by the resignation of Mr S. Dowland. At the completion of 47 years’ service, Air J. Bevin is to retire from the position of district traffic manager in U;e Railway Department at Wellington at the end of the present month. Air Bevin joined the service as a cadet in Dunedin in 1877, and after passing through all branches of the traffic work there he was transferred to Invercargill as • chief clerk in the traffic manager’s office. Subsequently he filled the position of chief clerk to the traffic manager at Auckland, and later was appointed chief clerk to the traffic superintendent at Dunedin.
