LONDON, March 19. Mr Winston Churchill alone had 265 cars engaged during the by-electioli. One of his supporters came from Cannes and another from Italy. Mr Baldwin, Mr Henderson and his two sons, Mr Snowden and Miss Margaret Bondfield were among the voters.

Mr Churchill twice toured the constituency at the head of a motor procession,! every car sounding a siren continually, partisans with megaphones crying: “Winston will win.”

Mr Nicholson’s supporters anticipated a two thousand majority. Labour said it might slip in owing to the Conservative split, but it would be satisfied if it could keep Mr Churchill out. —A. and N.Z. cable.

At tlic general election last year General J. S. Nicholson (Conservative) was elected for the Abbey division of Westminster unopposed. Mr Winston Churchill was a candidate for the Leicester West seat last December, standing as a Libera], but he was defeated by Mr F. W. Pethick Lawrence (Labour) by 13,634 votes to 9236, Captain Instone (Conservative) polling 7696.
