INTER-SCHOOL CONTESTS
last year a' number of pupils from Certral School visited Levin to contest a programme of swimming events wit.i the local district high school, and were successful in winning most of the races. Yesterday the Levin scholars paid a return visit, about twenty, under the charge of Miss Perry and Mr Jones, making the trip. The weathe • was all that could be desired, and a largo crowd assembled at the Central bat is to witness the contests, the majority of which resulted in interesting finishes. The visitors wero welcomed by Mr L. P. de Berry, headmafter of Central School, who expressed pleasure at having them there that day. Sixteen events were on the programme, and the Central School representatives proved too strong for the'r opponents, whom they beat by HO points to 26. Following are the detailed results, all being Central School scholars unless otherwise stared:—Boys’ junior 33} yards: Penman 1, Weeks 2, Andrews (Levin) 3. Won with ease. Gills’ senior 33} yards: P. Sirtnnonds 1, E. Peters and 11. Massey dead heat 2. Won by a yard. Boys’ senior 33} yards: Morgan I, Sutton 2, A. Penman 3. A yard covered the placed competitors. Girls’ junior 33} yards: E. Peters 1, R. Hobson (Levin) 2, J. McDonald 3. A good race, .a touch separating the three placed competitors. Girls’ senior 66} yards: P. Simmonds 1, J. Tingey (Levin) 2, Id. Massey 3. Won by a touch. Boys’ senior 66}. yards: Penman 1, Sutton 2, L. George (Levin) 3. A good race. Morgan was first home, but was disqualified for starting too soon. Boys’ junior breast stroke, 33} yards: Penman 1, Weeks 2, Beale 3. A splendid race, Penman winning by a touch. Girls’ senior breast stroke, 33} yards: P. Simmonds 1, Andrews (Levin) 2, E. Peters 3. A good race, P Simmonds winning by a touch, with the third swimmer close up. Boys’ senior breast stroke, 33} yards: Morgan 1, Gourlay 2, Packman 3. A yard covered the placed competitors. Girls’ junior breast stroke, 38} yards: J. McDonald 1, E. Peters 2, K. Melton (Levin) 3. A close finish, the winner haling little to spare. Girls’ diving: J. McPherson 1, J. Tingev (Levin) 2, M. McKenzie (Levin) 3. Boys’ senior lOC yards: Morgan 1, Penman 2, Sutton 3. Won by about two yards, a yard separating second and third. Boys’ diving: Penman 1, Sutton 2, George (Levin) 3. Girls’ relay: P. Simmonds, H. Massey, J. McDonald and E. Peters 1. Central won by a touch. Boys’ relay: Morgan, Sutton, Penman and Gourlay .1. Central won by half the length ol the baths. Girls’ back Stroke, 33} yards: P. Simmonds 1, J. Hobson (Levin) 2, E. Peters 3. At the conclusion Mr Hobson, Mayor of Levin, thanked the staff and pupils of Central School for the enjoyable afternoon, and assured those present that Levin would put up a good fight nc: t year. Later in the afternoon tea waa dispensed at the school.
