DOMINION’S REPLIES.
NEW ZEALAND OFFERS CONTRIBUTION.

In the House of Commons, Mr MacDonald announced that Ireland and Canada had refrained from expressing an opinion of tho Singapore project. Australia and New Zealand were anxious for tho establishment of a defensive base as otherwise the Empire’s interests in the Pacifio would be olndangered. Australia was ready to sanction a contribution ; New Zealand bad already offered £IOO,OOO. South Africa favoured abandonment of the Bcheme, General Smuts describing it a bold move towards an enduring peace. —Sydney Sun cable.

MR' BALDWIN'S INTENTIONS.
Received March 19 2 p.m. LONDON, March 18. In the House of Commons, Mr Baldwin said that the Opposition reserved the right to challenge the Government’s Singapore decision at the report stage. The Liberals are moving a motion opposing the construction of now cruisers a.s being calculated to increase tho competition in armaments. —A. and N.Z. cable.
