SHAKES AT SACHALIEN.

HUGE FISSURES IN EARTH.

MANY CASUALTIES CAUSED,

NEW YORK, March 18

According to a despatch from ,* Tokio correspondent it is learned that another earthquake disaster has visited the Japanese, the present centre being Kashiku, a small Japanese colony on Saghalien Island, where great vertical and horizontal tremors opened huge fissures in the earth, destroying dwellings and causing many casualties. The river Nayori, immediately following the earthquake, began rising rapidly. The tremors were felt in Tokio. The seismic nucleus is believed to be at the sea bottom, near the Kurile Islands. Relief measures have been started to aid the injured and homeless at Saghalien.—A. and N.Z, cable.
