(From Our Own Correspondent.) At tho annual meeting- of tho Fitzherbert East Hall Committee, Mr Ilopcroft presided over a fair attendance of settlers interested in the hall, and Mr Roy Williams acted as secretary pro tern. Ihe annual report and balance-sheet^, showing that the finances oi the hall committee were in a sound condition, were read and adopted. Before proceeding with tho business of the meeting, u vote of condolence with Mr Gawilh in the loss he had sustained in tho recent dea.h of his wife was passed, those present sta iding. The election of the executive committee for tho ensuing year resulted as follows: Messrs W. R. Ilopcroft (chairman), W. 11. Gawith (secretary), A. Ilarvey, 11. Titshall, R. Williams, W. Gosling, L. Field, W. Scott-, W. Pinfold, W. Anderson and Mesd.imes Scott, Field, Pinfold and Miss Atkir son.

The first of a series of euchre parties took place last Friday evening. Prizes donated by Mr Titshall wore won by Miss Etty Anderson and Mr A. Brill. At the conclusion of tho euchre a dance was held, music for which was provided by Mr A. Brill, an e ctra being played by Miss Atkinson.

Last Fri luy afternoon there was quite a large attei dance of the local public at the school swimming pool to witness the swimming sports held in connection with the school. The weather was a little on the cool side for swimming hut in no way cooled the ardour of the youthful contestants, who entered in (he various events on the programme and put up some really good performances. The thanks of the committee are due to the teachers. Miss McKee and Mr Gilligan, who carried out all arrangements in connection with the sports, to the anonymous donors of prize money tc ' Messrs Lewis and L'outts for donating a school championship shield, and to the ladies for providing afternoon tea. On Saturday afternoon last a very interest inn- game of bowls was played on Mr JSmith’s l o-\vling . green, when a team of bowlers representing the firm of Abiaharrt and Williams, Ltd., accepted a challenge from a team picked from the local bowlers. Aokautere was well in the lend during the early par. of the game, hut the visitors gained ground towards the end of the game and won the contest bv 26 to 19. The visitors were Messrs Larcomb, Bryan, Kerslake. and Moffat, the local howlers being represented by Messrs Smith, senr., J. A. Smith W. S. Gawith and W. l'crgusson. The visiting team commented favourably on the conclit on of the green, which Mr Smith very kirid v places at. the disposal ot bowling enthusiasts in the district. At the conclusion of the game all the bowlers and the visitors wire entertained at afternoon ton by Mr and Mrs Smith, who were accorded many thanks for their hospitality. It is expected that a return game will be played at an ear.y date.
