SWIMMING.

LOCAL CARNIVAL. Tlie municipal baths will be a centre of attraction to-morrow afternoon when the Manawatu Swimming Centre will hold a carnival. The presence of many of New Zealand’s foremost swimmers on their return from the championships at Wanganui, will provide a feast of talent and the local champions will be thus given the opportunity of a try-out against formidable opposition. Included in the 33 who will participate are such periormers as J. Enwright, the 100 yards New Zealand champion, Smith and Bradley, who also gained places in the sprint events, Alisses P. Page and D. Magee, intermediate and junior champions, and C. Wilson and P. Mulverliill, diving exponents. All that remains to make the function a complete success is favourable onditious. The Palmerston North Swimming Club Held its annual contest for the Clere Cup in the municipal baths last night when there was a good number of competitors. Previously, the contest for the trophy lias extended oyer a series of races, hut on this occasion it was restricted to the 6(5 2-3 yards distance. L. Cockroft, who last >eat shared the honours with G. Sollitt. participated and proved the successful competitor. The placings were : L. Cockroft (sc-r.). 1 ; G. Mofiatt (2 secs.) and 0. Bennett (2secs.), dead heat, 2. Time 49secs. SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS. (Per Press Association.) WANGANUI, Jan. 31. The swimimng championships were :ontinued to-dav.
