LUNCHEON CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Luncheon Club was held to-day in conjunction with the weekly luncheon. Tho President, Mr J. 11. Dick, in presenting the annual report and balance-sheet, stated that, unfortunately, owing to the leoent transfer of the secretary and treasurer (Mr Fowler) to Wanganui, a printed copy was not available to the members. It was, however, understood that the club had a credit-balance of £5 19s 4d.

During the year, stated the report, the club had been fortunate in obtaining visits from no less than 14 distinguished visitors who had delivered highly interesting addresses. The attendances had throughout been excellent, tho average per meoting being 35. The membership, added tho president, had been fixed at 125 and at present tile accepting of additional members would t e ir convenient, but there had, no doubt, been severul departures and withdrawals and a week or so would enable them to determine the true membership of tho club. There had been 47 meetings ot the club held during tho year with an average attendance of 35, but this figure should be capable of being increased. A number of new ideas hud been included in the syllabus for ibis yesr and the addition of the chairman’s name against the subject would enable *llllll to become conversant with what was to tie discussed. Further, there was the addition of the Christmas function and the national syiiabus idea, whereby notable visitors would become members of the New Zealand Club. and thus be brought in contact with the clubs of any centre they should visit. It was considered that the scheme would do much to assist visitors to New Zealand to gain tv better insight into the life and conditions of the people and also enable the exchange of ideas per medium of the Luncnjon Club meetings. Another suggestion brought forward had been the encouragement of h'gh school boys and others in the art of puubc speaking. In this the committee had been supported by the rector of the Boys’ High School (Mr J. Murray), and it was proposed to set aside one or two days per quarter for that purpose. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.

The election of office bearers lor tile ensuing year resulted President, Mr _G. G. Priest; vice-prosi Jents, Messrs W. A. Waters 11. F. Wilson; syllabus coui.n'Uot\ Messrs J. 11. Stevens, U 1. McGregor, and (j T. Salmon; committee, Messrs \v. o. Harrington, 11. F. \\ r.'-.on; managing stcietary, Mr J. H. Stevens.
