I MPERIAL CONFERENCE.
MATTERS FOR DISCUSSION. TREATY-MAKING RIGHTS. LONDON, Get. 27. It is authoritatively stated that'members of the Imperial Conferences are endeavourihg to conclude the sittings by the middle of November at the latest-, possibly earlier. The only important subjects awaiting the conferences, apart from defence, are* the status of .Indians within the Filip ire and tire treaty-making powers of the ■Dominions. The former Will probably be concluded next week, and the latter subject has already been remitted to a special committee, which is ho\v in consultation with the Foreign Office. ■■. i. Delegates attach considerable importance to the committee’s report, which, if adopted by the conference, will determine the treaty-making status of the Dominions for the first time in the -Empire’-s history. There are also several committees investigating various subjects, including migration, group settlement, and financial co-op-eration between Britain and the Dominions, with reference to development, enterprise and defence contributions .by the Dominions, , all of .whidh must he submitted to the Imperial Conference, and will probably, occupy the last fortnight.—A. and N.Z. cable.
