KOPUTAROA-BUCKLEY ROAD.
MR. LINKLATER’S SYMPATHY. Advantage was taken by the Kopu-taroa-Buckley Road .Cqmmxtteo on \V ednesday evening to place before Mr. J. Linklater, M.P., who visited Koputaroa to open the now hall, tho necessity of completing the unformed portion of the Kopu-taroa-Buckley road and asking for his assistance in respect to obtaining a Government subsidy to help carry out jtho work in the event of the work being gone on V,l Mr Broadbelt, in placing the matter before Mr. Linklater, said they wore agreed that the county engineer’s estimate ot cost, viz., £15,000, was too expensive: but they were of opinion that a modified scheme could bo brought forward. It was most essential the road should bo connected up as at present anyone desiring to travel north by road had to make a detour of double the distance over hilly country before reaching Shannon. He said the pro-, posed continuation of the road.would probably become suitable for a main highway. Mr. Linklater stated he was quite in sympathy with it becoming a main road and that he fas willing to do his best to help them get the road continued. lie considered the present estimate too liign, when the short length of road required was taken into consideration, and ho agreed with the committee that a modified scheme should bo considered. Ho was satisfied the settlers required tho road and ho promised that when the committee furnished him with data to work on ho would use his best endeavours to help them attain tl Mr °Broadbelt, on behalf of the deputation, then thanked Mr. Linklater for his sympathy in tho matter, and the deputation withdrew.
