Mr. Alexander Stuart, of Runnymede, Marten, has been appointed a member of the Wellington Land Board. Private advice received in Wellington states that Mr, T. M, Wilford arrived at Kyoto (Japan) on Wednesday. A London cablegram announces that the new licentiates of tiie Royal College of Physicians include Dr, K. Christie, of Otago. I • 1 ■ Mr F. W. Connell, of Palmerston North, has been appointed clerk to tho Makerua Drainage Board. There were twenty applicants for the position. The Right Rev. J. M. Liston, Co-adjutor Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, who has been on a visit to Sydney, returned by the Manuka this week. Mr Frank Kellogg, a former Minnesota Senator, is named as the probable successor to Colonel Harvey as the American Ambassador in London (states a Washington message), Advice has been received in Wellington of tho death, at Sydney, of Mr. Aiden Doyle, formerly a well-known “West Coaster,” at the age of 81 years. The late Mr. Doyle was a brother of Mr. P J. Doyle, of Lyall Bay, Wellington. Mr F. E. Jenks, of the Otahuhu railway station staff, has been transferred to Palmerston North to replace Mr W. J. White, who has retired on superannuation. Mr Jenks was a cadet at tho local station some years ago. ' The Rev. A. H, Julius, who has been vicar at Akaroa for 19 years, has handed in his resignation, which will take effect on January 31st. Mr. Julius was ordained in the Diocese of Rockhampton in 1.884, so that ho has a record of nearly 40 years of ministerial work. Dr. Colin C. Anderson, of the Royal Infirmary, Manchester, has been appointed radiologist to the Dunedin hospital, and is expected to take up bis duties at the beginning of the new year. Dr. Anderson is an ex-New Zealander, who received his early medical training at the Otago University. In recognition of the devoted service rendered by Mr. Pryor to 'the New Zealand Employers' Federation, it was decided by the federation to open a memorial fund in his honour, the income therefrom to be used for the benefit ot Mrs. Pryor and her younger children. Tho federation allocated certain amounts as being fair totals for each centre to subscribe. It is pleasing to report, comments' tho annual statement of tho Wellington Employers’ Association, that W ellington employers gave freely and willingly, the total sum contributed to the fund in Wellington being fIISS-approximately double '.the amount allocated. The funds (totalling £3000) have been safely invested by trustees. A familiar figure at tho Wairarapa>show was Mr. Henry Daysh, who has not missed a show for many years, and is generally to be seen at Palmerston North as well. His parents (says a Wellington paper) came out in tho Gertrude in 1840,, with four children, which in later years increased to 16, of which Mr. Henry Daysh is the youngest. Ho was born in Taita, and some of his older brothers and sisters, in their young days, were placed down a well for safety at the time the Moons were making war on the settlers. Mr. Daysh lias been a farmer all his ate, dairying being his specialty, and it was his son Norman who invented a wellknown milker. His son leaves for America by the Niagara on October 30th. Mr. Henry Daysh, who lost his first wife a few years back, and has since married again, is still farming at Martinborough, end enjoys robust health.
