McKELVIE CHALLENGE CUP
WON BY LINTON CLUB.
The challenge match between the Linton arid Marton Rifle Clubs eventuated in Palmerston North last night, when Marten (holders) lost the trophy, the Linton men winning by 36 points. In presenting the cup to the winning team Mr Gibbons, of Marton, congratulated the victors on their success, and remarked on the excellent shooting of the competitors. Mr G. Tremaine received the trophy on behalf of the winners, and in the course of a brief speech congratulated the Marton riflemen on the good scores they had put up. lie referred to the strange conditions under which the visitors had to compete on the Linton Club’s range, but when the local club visited Marton, he said, they would have the same thing to contend with. Cheers ‘were given for Mr McDonald, of tfie Marton team, who registered two “possibles” of 70. Incidentally, he is the first man to score two "possibles” on the Linton Club’s range. Marlon held the cup for a considerable time, surviving four previous challenges, and the Linton Club has now the task of contesting four challenges which have been received.
