NEW METHODIST CHURCH.

BUILDING TO COMMENCE SOON. 1 .

Finality has been reached in • regard to the erection of the new Cuba street Methodist Church, the necessity for which has become more insistent every yeat for the past decade,, and plans nave been drawn up and the contract let for the new building, operations on which are to commence as soon as the preliminary arrangements have been .completed. The new'edifice will be constructed ih brick and will be in the Gothic style A feature will'be an ornate window in tjie front of the church with leaded lights and the roof will be covered with asbestos tiles.

Facing Cuba street, the new church will be erected on the site of the present building and will seat 417 people. Ii) the south wing will be the choir gallery and ample ayace has been allowed for to admit of the installation of a pipe organ. There will be two vestries, one for the choir and the other for the minister. The interior finish of the walls will be in red pressed brick tap pointed. The present building will be removed to a rear of the section and will bo renovated and altered to provide for Sunday school class-rooms, rooms for the Bible classes and also a room for the ladies’ guild, while ample provision will be made for a social hall, adequate space being allotted in the plans for this,.purpose. ' The estimated host’of the new church and -the removal and-alterations to the old building is £5500, £3500 of which sum has been raised. Mr O. A. Jorgenftte is the architect for ‘the new edifice, which will be erected by Mr F. Needham,

.The abandonment of the original plaits, which, provided for an underground Sunday school hall, is due to the cost of such a building and also the general unsuitability of the proposal. llt is expected that’the building .will be completed in six months’ time, arid pending its completion the services will be conditeted.in 'the Old church.
