DEATH OF TWO OF THE CREW. SEARCH FOrTiISSING BOAT. Received June 28 11,45. a.m. LONDON, June 27. The Admiralty has been advised that two members of the crew of the Trevessa in the Captain’s bout died at sea. The captain’s boat parted with the other bout, which was ordered to proceed to Rodriguez, on June 9. A warship from Colombo has been ordered to search for the second boat. — Reuter.
The Trevessa, which was formerly a. Gorman-owned steamer, sank in the Indian Ocean about 1.30 a.m. ou Monday, Juno 4th. She sent out wireless messages, asking for help, but although other vessels went to her assistance they were too far away and were too late to reach her in time.
Since then vessels have been searching for tho crew as the latest messages from the Trevessa stated that the crew had taken to the boats, but until the above cablegram came to baud no trace had been found of them.
It is understood that the Trevessa carried a crow of 43 all told, consisting of 31 Britishers and also 12 coloured firemen.
Rodrigue;', tho place from which the message was received, is a hilly, volcanic island, 18 miles long by seven broad, and lies 380 miles east by north of Mauritius, of which it is a dependency. Hurricanes often cause JP’oat damage to the island, which is encircled by a coral reef. Tho distance travelled by those in the ship’s boat was probably over a thousand miles.
