CORRESPONDENCE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir -In ready a weekly paper recently, I was struck by an account of the pesti. fences and famines which are existing on the Continent of Europe, and in comapring such condtion with those existing in .New Zealand, it seems to me that we, as a people, are not vet fully alive to the deplorable conditions that have daily to bo endured there. No language h strong enough to express their plight and suffering. Therefore, I W f let all ser,ou =- mitided people forego one, at least, ot our many pleasures and give to these people; for were it not for the accident of birth we, ourselves, might he in their unenviable position. I, myself, have decided to forego mv tobacco, and in depriving myself of that one luxury I shall, in the course of one year, be able to contribute £24 to relief 'work.—l am etc., HUMANITY.
